We write again about the renewed EIC Accelerator and briefly explain the new procedure to apply for the first phase of the program.

A few weeks ago we told you about the new features of the renewed European Innovation Council, and today we would like to delve into the requirements that your project must meet to qualify for grants from the EIC Accelerator program.
The EIC Accelerator (formerly SME Instrument) is part of the pilot program of the European Innovation Council (EIC) and is aimed at small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and entrepreneurs in any sector with high-potential, high-risk technology projects that have difficulty accessing financing, to help them develop and bring to market new innovative products, services and business models that can drive economic growth.
To apply to the EIC Accelerator you must:
- To have a Business Plan related to marketable innovative solutions.
- Be established in an EU Member State or in a country associated to Horizon 2020.
- To have a profit motive.
- As a novelty, they must apply individually and not through a consortium.
The beneficiary small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) will receive grant and equity financing in the form of private investment, and will also be offered business advice to accelerate their innovation idea.
The projects will receive between 0.5 and 2.5 million euros in grants. They may request a higher or lower amount when submitting the application, but it must be duly justified.
In addition, applicants will be asked to indicate whether they want blended financing and the amount requested in the form of private investment. The maximum equity investment is €15 million.
Beyond the financing, the most immediate consequence will be that the selected companies will increase their chances of success and visibility in European and international markets.
