It is time to talk about Horizon Europe, and to do so we will go back to the beginnings of the European Union, which has mobilized efforts to create a solid socioeconomic growth and development of all its member states to ensure the quality of life of its citizens.
One of its key initiatives is the Framework Program for Research and Technological Development, whose ninth multi-year strategy is about to begin under the name “Horizon Europe” (2021-2027). The new program is the most ambitious of those deployed to date, as it plans to invest €100 billion in technological solutions and innovation to meet the challenges of today’s society:
- Strengthen the scientific and technological bases of the EU and the European Research Area.
- Boosting Europe’s innovation capacity, competitiveness and employment.
- Fulfill citizens’ priorities and socioeconomic model.
Based on previous experiences and accumulated knowledge, the European Commission will focus on efficiency, maximizing impacts, simplifying procedures, promoting synergies with other programs and facilitating digital transformation, with the ultimate goal of increasing the overall investment of States and companies in R&D&I. This EC strategy is still being finalized and more details will be known during the last quarter of 2020.
