On November 14th The Lighthouse Team was present at the Innovation Forum organized by the Carlos III University of Madrid.

This meeting was attended by researchers, entrepreneurs, public administration, companies from various sectors and investors, all of them drivers of innovation and the transfer of knowledge to society.

One of the presentations dealt with the Metaverse. The speaker, Soraya Cadalso, CEO of UTTOPION, pointed out how the Metaverse has gone from being a concept linked to science fiction to being perceived as an opportunity to generate new advances in the entertainment industry, not only for the development of applications to help humanity. In this way, the speaker explained, systems are being developed that will make it easier for doctors to inform their patients about the stages of development of a disease that affects them or how a surgical intervention will be carried out. In her presentation she also mentioned how the Metaverse is evolving towards a collaborative experience in which, for example, during a surgical operation, the surgeon who is in the operating room operating on the patient can be assisted remotely by other doctors, who will also be able to interact with the patient.

Cristina Garmendia, president of Cotec, spoke about “innovation metrics which have been developed with the aim of offering entrepreneurs a series of parameters to identify and measure their innovation efforts exhaustively. The speaker pointed out that many companies still find it difficult to identify, measure and report their innovation activities, so it will be of great help to them to verify the value of their efforts through the metrics developed by Cotec. To make it easier to understand, a series of fictitious cases have been published to illustrate how different types of entities can identify functions that can be considered as innovation.

Thus, he stressed the importance of putting an end to the false belief that still exists in some companies that the result of their work is not innovation, since, to the extent that a new product has been introduced, a process has been significantly improved or a new work method has been created, an innovation process can be considered to have taken place.

In short, it may seem like a well-known fact, but it cannot be overemphasized that innovation plays an important role in fostering economic growth and contributes greatly to improving people’s well-being.

The Lighthouse Team, is a law and consulting firm with a strong vocation for innovation and entrepreneurship projects and the use and development of new technologies. Our experience has shown us that the transformation of an innovative project into a company that puts the results of such project in the market requires a high degree of involvement between the entrepreneur and his lawyers, and therefore we put all our resources at the disposal of startups and entrepreneurs so that their objectives can materialize with maximum legal certainty.
